Student Portal Installation Step 1 - Install / Check IIS

Alert

It is important that an experienced IT resource is available to manage this process.

Ensure that the .NET Framework version 4.5.1 or later is installed on the server machine. It must be the full version (not the Client Profile version). The .NET Framework can be downloaded from the Microsoft website.

Ensure that Internet Information Services (IIS) is installed on the server machine, along with the ASP.NET 4.5 components. At a minimum, the IIS Management Console and ASP.NET (4.5) components (which will automatically include its dependencies such as .NET Extensibility, ISAPI Extensions and ISAPI Filters) must be installed. Additional IIS features may be installed if desired, but are not required by the VETtrak Student Portal.

If your organisation runs Microsoft SharePoint, be aware that it makes changes to the IIS configuration that breaks compatibility with the portals. We recommend that a different server is chosen to run your portal instead in this case. While it might be possible to make the portals and SharePoint work together on the same IIS installation, we're unable to advise on settings changes, because any changes may break your SharePoint installation.

Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10

In Windows 7 and Windows 8, you can install IIS, or check the installation, by going to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off.

Windows Server 2008 R2

In Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS can be installed or the installation checked by going to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Server Manager > Roles, and adding or editing the Web Server (IIS) role.

Windows Server 2012/2012 R2

In Windows Server 2012, IIS can be installed by opening the Server Manager, going to the Manage menu, selecting Add Roles and Features, and adding the Web Server (IIS) role. For details, refer to:
