Error 2101: Record number (XXX) contains at least one illegal character in field (XXX) from field position (XX).

When submitting National AVETMISS Files to NCVER, you may encounter errors in your NAT 080, such as;

Error 2101: Record number (xxx) contains at least one illegal character in field (xxx) from field position (xx).

Getting this error would indicate that during the creation of your Client/Client Address, you used an invalid character, such as a space or a foreign character, etc.

Below are some examples of characters in your NAT080 File, that are illegal.

An illegal character ;

(Characters that aren't included on a standard English keyboard are usually illegal.)

A space in the client name ;

Sometimes using regular Notepad can make it difficult to find the problematic characters, as such we recommend a free third party app like Notepad++. It's free and really helps to identify foreign characters in your NAT Files.
